The first of these 'stumbling stones' were laid in Berlin-Kreuzberg in 1996, still more or less illegally. Cities and towns in other European countries followed soon. On this location, Vispoortenplas 4 in Zwolle lived Carolina Eva Caneel-Bamberg, born in Gendringen on 1912-04-28 and was murdered in Sobibor on 1943-04-30.
